How to Make a Photo Book From Your Phone, Step by Step

6 September 2026 · 6 min read · By Kaushal Sharma · guides, photos, printing

You can make a hardcover photo book from your phone in one evening, without a laptop or a design bone in your body. This post walks through how to make a photo book from your phone, start to finish, the way people actually do it at Apni Stories: pick the photos on your phone, upload them, let the layout build itself, fix the few pages that need a hand, preview, order. There is a short list of what you need before you start, and a section on the mistakes that cost people a reprint.

What you need before you start

Not much. But get these ready and the whole thing takes twenty minutes instead of two hours.

Step by step: phone to printed book

  1. Make an album on your phone. Open Photos or Google Photos, create a new album, and put in only the photos that belong in this book. Selecting here, on a screen you already know, is faster than selecting inside an uploader. If you are unsure what to keep, our guide on how to choose photos for a photo book has a simple keep-or-cut rule.

  2. Open app.apnistories.com in your phone browser. That is where the upload, the layout, the preview and the order all happen.

  3. Pick a book. The Zine (10x10 inch, 20 pages, up to about 80 photos) for a weekend. The Classic (A4, 26 pages, up to 104 photos) for a proper trip. The Heirloom (A4, 32 pages, lay-flat, up to 128 photos) for the one you want to keep for decades. All three are hardcover, printed on glossy art paper with a gloss laminate cover. You can add up to 10 extra pages on any of them at ₹40 a page, so pick by feel, not by exact count.

  4. Upload from the album. Pick the photos from that album, upload, and wait. Keep the tab open until the upload finishes. On Wi-Fi this is quick. On mobile data in a moving car it is not.

  5. Let the layout build. The layout engine puts the photos in the order they were taken and builds the pages. Day one at the front, the last evening at the back. It takes a few minutes and you do not have to touch anything.

  6. Fix the pages that need it. Flip through. Move a photo to a different page, or swap two that landed in the wrong spot. Expect a handful of small changes, not a redesign. If something looks wrong and you cannot fix it, WhatsApp help is inside the app, or write to support@apnistories.com.

  7. Preview every page. Look at each spread the way you will look at the printed one. Check that no face sits where the two pages meet. Check that the last page is a photo you actually want to end on.

  8. Order. Enter the address, pay, done. Delivery is free anywhere in India, tracked, and usually takes 5 to 7 working days from order. The books are printed in Delhi NCR. If it is your first order, the code FIRSTTRIP takes ₹200 off.

How many photos should I upload from my phone?

Fewer than you think. Each page side holds up to 4 photos, and the “up to” numbers on each book are ceilings, not targets. A Classic with 60 good photos looks better than a Classic with 90 average ones, because each photo gets more room.

The Zine10x10 inch20Up to 80 photos₹1,499
The ClassicA426Up to 104 photos₹1,899
The HeirloomA4, lay-flat32Up to 128 photos₹2,299

Extra pages are ₹40 each, up to 10 per book. If you are torn between two books, the longer answer is in how many photos you need for a photo book, and the current prices are on the pricing section of the home page.

Mistakes that cost people a reprint

Uploading 2,000 photos. The tempting shortcut is to select the whole camera roll. The largest book holds 128 photos, so the rest have to be cut, and cutting inside an uploader is slower than cutting in an album you already know. A trip that filled your phone with 800 photos usually has 90 in it that matter.

Screenshots. Boarding passes, Maps directions, a meme your friend sent. They sneak into the album because they sit in the camera roll between the real photos. They print badly and they take a slot from a photo that earned it. Scroll the album once, hunting screenshots, before you upload.

WhatsApp-compressed images. The photo your cousin sent on WhatsApp is not the photo your cousin took. WhatsApp shrinks images heavily to send them. On a phone screen you cannot tell the difference. On an A4 page you can. If someone else has the originals, ask them to send as a document or share through Google Photos, and use those. Our post on iPhone photo resolution for photo books explains what size is enough and what is not.

Skipping the preview. The preview is the printed book. Tap order at page three because the first spread looked fine, and the surprise arrives in a box a week later.

Ordering the night before you need it. It takes about a week to reach you. If the book is a gift for a specific date, order ten days ahead and stop worrying.

Do I need a laptop or any design skills?

No, and no. Because the layout builds itself, you never open a blank page. You are editing a finished draft, not designing from scratch. Moving a photo or swapping two: that is the entire skill set.

A customer named Prinshul printed his parents’ UK trip and filmed them opening the book. Their reactions became our first reel. Nobody in that story sat at a laptop. It was the trip, in order, in something they could hold.

What to do next

Make the album. Open your phone, create an album with the trip’s name, and put in the photos that belong. The rest is an upload, a few fixes, a preview, and about a week’s wait.

Questions people ask

Do I need a laptop to make a photo book? No. Upload, layout, preview and payment all happen at app.apnistories.com, which you can open from your phone.

Can I make a photo book from WhatsApp photos? You can, but they print soft because WhatsApp compresses images heavily. Ask the sender for the originals as a document or through Google Photos, and use those instead.

How long does it take from upload to delivery? Upload and layout take a few minutes. Delivery is usually 5 to 7 working days from order, free and tracked anywhere in India.

What if a photo lands on the wrong page? Move it. You can shift any photo to another page or swap two before you order. The automatic layout is a starting point, not a lock.

Can I add more pages if my trip does not fit? Yes, up to 10 extra pages on any book at ₹40 per page. Each page side holds up to 4 photos.

Your trip deserves better than a camera roll.

Upload your photos, the editor designs the book in minutes, and you approve every page before we print. Hardcover books from ₹1,499, free tracked delivery across India.
