Photo Book Delivery Time in India and How to Plan for It

Here is the honest photo book delivery time in India, at least for the books we print at Apni Stories: about a week from the moment you order. This post breaks that week into its three parts (design, printing, courier), shows what tracking looks like, and gives you a simple way to plan backwards from a birthday or anniversary. It ends with what to do if you have already left it late, because most people have.

The short answer: 5 to 7 working days

Order today and the book usually reaches you in 5 to 7 working days. Delivery is free anywhere in India and the parcel is tracked. The books are printed in Delhi NCR, so where you land inside that window mostly depends on how far the courier has to carry the parcel from there.

Note the word working. Sundays do not count. Public holidays do not count. Seven working days that straddle a long weekend can become ten calendar days on your phone.

Where the week actually goes

People assume the slow part is design. It is not.

Design: a few minutes. You upload photos from your phone at app.apnistories.com and the layout engine builds the book in the order the photos were taken. Printing and binding. The press prints the pages on glossy art paper, puts the gloss laminate on the hardcover, and binds the book. The Heirloom has lay-flat binding, which is a different process from the standard binding on The Zine and The Classic. This is the part you cannot rush.

Courier. From Delhi NCR to your door. Metro to metro is fast. A smaller town or a remote pin code needs a second or third hop and takes longer. Address typos and nobody at home add days, so put a phone number the courier can actually reach.

All of that adds up to the 5 to 7 working days, which is why we say about a week rather than pretending it is overnight.

What does tracking look like?

Once the book ships, you can follow the parcel. Courier tracking in India is much the same across companies: a pickup scan in Delhi NCR, a transit scan or two as the bag moves between hubs, a scan at the destination city, and then “out for delivery” on the morning it reaches you. There can be a day with no update at all while the parcel is on a truck. That is normal, not lost.

Two habits help. Keep the tracking details where you can find them, and check them the day before you expect the book so someone is at home. How far ahead should you order for a birthday?

Two weeks is comfortable. Ten days is fine. A week is cutting it close but usually works. Under a week, keep reading.

Here is the way to plan it, backwards from the date.

Write down the occasion date.
Subtract two days for buffer. Couriers have bad days, and so do you.
Subtract 7 working days. Skip Sundays and any public holiday in between.
That is your order-by date. Put a reminder in your phone.
Build the book the weekend before that date, not the night of. The layout takes minutes, but choosing between three nearly identical photos of the same cake takes longer than you think.

Days until the occasion	What to do
14 or more	Relax. Build the book this weekend, order, and it arrives with days to spare.
10 to 13	Order in the next day or two. Do not sit on a finished draft.
7 to 9	Order today. A weekend or a holiday in the middle can eat the margin.

Festive season is different. In the weeks before Diwali, courier networks across the country carry more parcels than usual and delivery windows stretch. If you are planning a photo book as a Diwali gift, order it in early October, not the week of.

What if you are already late?

It happens. Here is what actually works.

Order today. Every day you wait is a day the courier does not get. Even if the book arrives after the date, it arrives, and a late photo book still beats an on-time box of chocolates. Write the card by hand. On the day, give a handwritten card that says the book is coming and what is in it. This is not a consolation prize. The card is the thing people keep inside the front cover for years. Say which trip, which year, which photos you chose and why.

Show the preview on your phone. The page-by-page preview in the app looks like the finished book. Sit next to the person and walk through it. It is a proper moment, and it makes the arrival a second gift.

Does the book size change delivery time?

The 5 to 7 working days is the same whichever book you pick: The Zine at 10x10 inch, The Classic at A4, or The Heirloom at A4 with lay-flat binding. Extra pages at ₹40 each do not change it either.
